Once again, IDeeJazz, the festival of good vibes will bring energy, joy and inspiration to the Estonian autumn! Top artists of the world from nine different countries are going to fill prime stages in Tartu and Narva with charisma and artistic expression. For four days in the middle of November darkness, the festival will bring out the sun! IDeeJazz – good vibes with any kind of weather!
This year, IDeeJazz could be titled the festival of good vibes and empathy, since its program connects two very different Estonian cities – Tartu and Narva. For the seventh year in Tartu and, due to the centenary of the Republic of Estonia (EV100), the first time in Narva, the festival of music and ideas invites all the people of Estonia and also foreign guests to get charged – positively charged. Altogether, the two cities will host 18 select concerts!
The goal of Tartu’s international jazz and rhythm music festival “IDeeJazz” is to place Tartu and Narva on the global map of jazz culture by bringing some of the top representatives of jazz from Estonia, Europe and several continents to the stages in both cities. The festival will feature world-class musicians from Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, USA, Poland, Russia, Morocco, Finland and of course Estonia.
The performers at IDeeJazz 2017 include the venerable and deeply passionate Polish singer and cultural ambassador Anna Maria Jopek with her new trio; a world-class talent with phenomenal vocal range, genre-breaking singer and trombone player Aubrey Logan from the USA; powerful, yet delicate Moroccan singer Oum from the Sahara desert; internationally acclaimed masterful trumpeter and pianist Sebastian Studnitzky with his quartet from Germany; many-time award-winning Danish guitarist, composer and ECM artist Jakob Bro; our own Estonian legend and ingenious songwriter Vaiko Eplik with the new trio Triller that also includes virtuoso guitarists Ain Agan and Andre Maaker; 12-member mini-bigband New Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra from the Netherlands and Aleksei Kuznetsov, who has been the flagship of Russian jazz guitar for over half a century. IDeeJazz is also glad to present specially for the festival the EV100 project “The Path of Joy”, which, led by the master of acoustic worlds Raun Juurikas, brings into focus songs from various eras filled with warmth and joy, revealing the sunny side of Estonian musical culture. “The Path of Joy” is sung by the beloved Estonian singer Liisi Koikson.
Chief organiser of IDeeJazz, Oleg Pissarenko: “Music connects people through joy and perception of common human values. That is why this year, we are organising the IDeeJazz festival in both Tartu and Narva, in order to enable people from both cities and their guests to experience superior musical moments with top artists of the world. I wish that the energy charge that is generated in world-class performances would not be limited to listeners in Paris, New York or Berlin, but would also reach the audiences in Tartu and Narva! Welcome to IDeeJazz!”
Organised in Narva in the framework of EV100, IDeeJazz invites you to discover the most beautiful and exciting places in the city, such as the modern building of UT Narva College, Carri Villa at the Kreenholm Manufacture, which houses the Narva Art Residency and the historical Remter hall in Narva Museum.
In Tartu, the grand and multifunctional building of the Estonian National Museum, completed about one year ago, provides the perfect environment for a colourful festival location, where all the events can be enjoyed under the same roof.
The reference to ideas in the name of the festival is also expressed in the range of performers, where each artist has something exceptional and characteristic to say – something that speaks to the audience, provides food for thought and adds colour to life. In addition to the musical genre, the term “jazz” also refers to an open and creative state of mind – from the perspectives of both the musicians and the listeners. IDeeJazz is just like Estonia – not exactly huge, but rich in content. Each concert is distinctive and unique.
Previous performers at IDeeJazz festivals include Richard Bona, Dino Saluzzi, Marcin Wasilewski, Enver Izmaylov, Sven Grünberg & Mess, Radar, Peeter Volkonski & E=mc2, Tõnis Mägi, Marju Kuut, Tõnu Naissoo, Kristjan Randalu, Hedvig Hanson, Kadri Voorand, Laura Remmel, Sofia Rubina, Villu Veski, Raivo Tafenau, Jaak Sooäär, Tanel Ruben, Oleg Pissarenko, Estonian Voices and many others.
